CRAFT

The Collaborate Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) is a model for sharing farm intern (or apprentice) training in cooperation with a number of participating farms.  Interns visit a host farm for a tour, a talk or demonstration on a specific topic, sometimes followed by a pot luck dinner. These visits to other farms offer farmers-in-training a chance to see how a wide range of farm operations work, to develop practical skills and to network with other farmers and farm interns.  The PFP participates in the Eastern NY and Western MA CRAFT and has been involved in organizing the Mid-Hudson CRAFT since its inception in 2008.

Mid-Hudson CRAFT involves exchange visits for more than 20 weeks that provides interns with exposure to a variety of farming practices and practical workshops on sustainable agriculture through visiting other local farms.  Mid-Hudson CRAFT exposes dozens of interns working at different farms to the PFP’s sustainable farming practices when they attend one or more workshops that we host, while our interns are exposed to a significant number and wide variety of learning experiences on other farms.
