Watermelon

The watermelon is a good source of potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C. Though the majority of calories in this fruit derive from sugars, watermelon makes a great, energizing weight loss food. Sweet and filling, watermelon is a refreshing breakfast or (with a little lime) a delicious salad delivering more nutrients than calories to power you through the day! The concentrated antioxidants in watermelon also aid with inflammatory conditions such as asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis. These same antioxidants are powerful agents in reducing the risk of contracting cancer. As with all fruits rich in vitamin C, regular intake of watermelon aids in eye health.

Choose watermelons that seem heavy for their size and have smooth skins. There should be one side of the watermelon that is slightly yellowor creamy in color. This is the "underbelly" that rested on the ground as the watermelon grew, and if this underbelly is not noticeable it could mean the watermelon was harvested prematurely.
