The PFP seeks summer interns and a Vassar summer fellow for 2012!

The Poughkeepsie Farm Project's Farming for the City Program provides participants with hands on experience growing food and providing education and outreach to the community, weekly trainings and field trips, and meaningful employment which makes a real difference in the community. Farming interns work with PFP staff, apprentices and members to grow mixed vegetables on 14 acres, operate a CSA, and involve hundreds of CSA members in hands on farming. A summer fellow teaches children and teenagers about food and farming, and lead outreach efforts to increase food access and awareness of food in the CIty of Poughkeepsie.  They also have the opportunity to participate in two Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) programs.

In 2012 we offer three 11 week farm internships.  We are also seeking a Vassar College student for a 10 week program fellowship.  There are opportunities to gain a wide range of knowledge and skills through weekly workshops and through exposure to a variety of activities at the PFP.   Farm interns focus on learning skills necessary to running a farm.  The summer fellow will tend education gardens and conduct educational activities with youth on the farm and in the City of Poughkeepsie.  Compensation includes a weekly stipend, vegetables, and training. 

We're seeking dependable and good-natured interns and fellows with an active interest in food and farming as well as an interest in working towards a just and sustainable food system; good communication skills; the ability to take initiative and a desire to be a part of bringing about positive community change.  Interested candidates are requested to apply by  February 15, however, positions will remain open until filled.
