2023 Poughkeepsie Harvest Fest

  • The Barns at the Vassar Ecological Preserve 49 Vassar Farm Lane Poughkeepsie, NY, 12603 United States (map)

Food justice should feel and taste good. THE CELEBRATION IS ON, RAIN OR SHINE!

Come warm up with us today! On Saturday, October 14, 2023, the Poughkeepsie Farm Project (PFP) will be celebrating the connection of food, farm and community with our 2023 Poughkeepsie Harvest Fest! Get ready for a fun, family friendly, music-filled evening where you can taste delicious soups created by talented local chefs using produce grown right here at Poughkeepsie Farm Project. This is a moment in which we celebrate all that nourishes us in this work, especially the nutritious produce that we harvest from this special land, and the relationships make the continuity of this work possible. Bring your dancing shoes, your appetite and a picnic blanket!

In 2023, we are thrilled to welcome Hudson Valley-based reggae band, The Big Takeover Band, and singer songwriter callie mackenzie, to the stage as our headliner entertainment. DJ Wisdom brought the good vibes last year and will be back again for some fantastic DJ sets before and after our live music sets!

Offstage, hand-crafted pottery bowls will be available thanks to generous local ceramicists at Fall Kill Creative Works’ Clay Works, as well as many other independent artists. We want to offer a special shout out to these artists for their support in this aspect of this event year after year.

The vast majority of the expenses related to this event are paid for through in-kind contributions and barter and volunteer work, so your ticket purchase primarily supports PFP’s food justice work throughout the rest of the calendar year.

  • 4:15 PM Opening Remarks

OUR 2023 PERFORMERS:

callie mackenzie is a Hudson Valley based musician, artist and organizer. In 2022, callie left her full time job to pursue music & art, and has performed around the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Armed with a guitar, callie writes music with an acoustic soul feel that reflects their lived experiences as a Queer Black woman experiencing the quest for liberation and the everyday feels of love, hope, joy, and loss. She brings the audience us on a smooth, soulful and funky journey of deep feelings about oppression, freedom, love, heartbreak, and mental health. In a world that tells us that we need to be strong all the time, callie’s music is a revolutionary act: to show that we can slow down, feel our feelings, express our feelings, and feel joy. Learn more about callie here.

The Big Takeover Band delivers a fresh take on Reggae, Rocksteady, Ska, and Soul. Blending the pop sounds of Jamaica with the soulful energy of Motown, this band is one tight, grooving ensemble. Feel the electricity of the live-wire singing and deceptively subtle songwriting of the powerhouse performer NeeNee Rushie. Groove to the explosive rhythms, and get swept away by the sweet sounds of the horns. This band is guaranteed to make you dance. Learn more about the Big Takeover Band here.
